The True Reality of FESCO Net-Metering

A transparent, step-by-step breakdown of how long it actually takes to get a Green Meter in Sargodha.

There is a lot of misinformation regarding Net-Metering timelines in Pakistan. Many installers promise a live Green Meter in "two weeks" to close a sale, leaving homeowners frustrated when the process drags on for months.

At SheikhX Solar, we believe in radical transparency. Here is exactly what happens when you decide to go On-Grid or Hybrid with us in the FESCO region.

Critical Prerequisite

To qualify for Net Metering, you MUST have a 3-Phase Meter already installed at your premises. If you only have a Single-Phase meter, you must first apply for an upgrade with FESCO before the Net-Metering process can begin.

The 5-Step Process & Timeline

Step 1: Application Preparation (1-3 Days)

After your system is installed and commissioned (powering your house via solar), our engineering team prepares the extensive documentation required by FESCO. This includes:

  • Load flow diagrams designed by a PEC-certified engineer.
  • Technical specifications of your Tier-1 Inverter and Panels.
  • Attested property ownership documents and ID copies.

Step 2: Initial FESCO Submission & Site Audit (2-3 Weeks)

We submit the file to the local FESCO SDO office. A FESCO inspector will visit your site to verify:

  • The structural integrity of the solar mounting.
  • Safety compliance, specifically Earthing/Grounding systems.
  • Whether the installed equipment matches the submitted diagrams.

Step 3: NEPRA Generation License (4-6 Weeks)

Once FESCO approves the local audit, the file is forwarded to NEPRA (National Electric Power Regulatory Authority). NEPRA performs its own verifications and eventually issues a Generation License. This is usually the longest waiting period because NEPRA processes applications nationally.

Step 4: Load Sanction & Agreement (1-2 Weeks)

With the NEPRA license in hand, the file returns to FESCO. A formal Distributed Generation Agreement is signed between you and FESCO, and the required load is "sanctioned" on their grid.

Step 5: Meter Installation (1-2 Weeks)

FESCO issues the demand notice for the Green Meter. Once paid, the testing lab verifies the meter, and the lineman finally installs the bi-directional Green Meter at your house. You are now officially exporting power!

Summary: Realistic Expectations

From the day your installation finishes to the day the Green Meter is active, expect a timeline of 2.5 to 3.5 months. However, remember that your solar system is already powering your house during the daytime from Day 1, so your bills will still drop immediately!
